24th Annual Auction and Yard Sale

August 12 and 13, 2017

Our annual auction and yard sale is held on the second full weekend of August every year on the grounds of our main fire station and inside the old Orr's Island Schoolhouse on Harpswell Islands Road, Route 24, on Orr's Island in Harpswell (get directions in new window).

A giant yard sale of thousands of donated items is held indoors and out from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days.

A silent auction of goods, services and experiences donated by area businesses is open on both days until noon on Sunday.

The live auction begins at 10 a.m. Sunday, with preview starting at 9 a.m.

Cooked-to-order Breakfast, lunch, snacks and desserts are offered for sale on both days.

Please check back here often for more info on this special event, including some of the items up for sale as they become available. Please contact us any time for more info.

Historic Cribstone Bridge Block

For the second year in a row, we are proud to be able to offer an authentic piece of island history -- a granite block that supported the Bailey Island Cribstone Bridge since the 1920s until it was removed during the rehab in 2009-2010.

The block is about 5-feet wide and still has some original quarry marks. It would be a perfect bench, as demonstrated here by our lead auctioneer, Malcolm McFarland.

This year's block was donated by Kenney Landscaping of Harpswell, which will deliver the stone to a spot accessible from the road or driveway anywhere in Harpswell.

It will be auctioned about noon on Sunday.

Orr's Island Campground Sign

A familiar sight for years, the iconic sign from the former Orr's Island Campground will be up for auction this year.

The wooden sign, with a ship's wheel design, is about 8 feet around.

With the campground now gone, it needs a new home somewhere on the islands.

It will be auctioned at about 11 a.m. on Sunday.

South Africa Photo Safari For 2 People

Zulu Nyala Game Reserve Zululand, South Africa

A tantalizing taste of the wild in the heart of Africa's richest conservation regions. Experience elephant, rhino, leopard, giraffe, hippo, zebra, nyala, cape buffalo, kudu, and many more.

Six days and 6 nights, includes 3 meals per day and 2 daily Land Rover trips. (Does not include airfare, transfers, personal beverages, side trips, or phone calls). Use within 2 years. Non transferrable. Value $5,950.

Will be auctioned about 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. Two available for same winning bid.

Other Items to be Auctioned Beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday

This is just a small sample. More than 200 items will be up for auction, including bureaus, desks, beds, mirrors, chairs, art, antiques, collectibles and other unique items and experiences. Plus lots more for sale at the Saturday-Sunday Yard Sale, and at the Silent Auction on both days!

We're adding more items every week, right up until the big weekend. Please check back regularly for updates!

Volunteers Needed

Come give back to the community, have a great time and get to know many of your wonderful neighbors by volunteering to help at our annual auction and yard sale.

The massive community event requires dozens of volunteers to help with everything, including collecting and sorting donations, setting up, selling at the yard sale, recording bids, moving items, serving food, traffic and parking control, cleanup, and more. There are roles for everyone, before, during and after the big weekend.

Volunteers get early access to the sale, a free T-shirt, free food and the appreciation and admiration of everyone at OBIFD and throughout the community.

If you're interested in being part of the fun, please contact us through this site or call 207-833-5405 and leave us a message.
